New at SRHAC

Beautifying Plaza Arms

Take a walk through Plaza Arms to see the new art in the entry area and the conference room. The landscape murals in the stairwell and conference room were painted by artist Timothy Johnson, who is an SRO resident. The cityscape on the front desk was created by SRHAC’s own Jessica Fernandez and Lexie Rodriguez. They also plan to make the day room more appealing with books and shelves and board games. SRHAC To Create New Senior Housing in Old School

SRHAC acquired the former Melody Elementary School at 412 S. Keeler Avenue in 2022 and will convert it to affordable senior housing. The project will create approximately 60 one- and two-bedroom apartments for persons over 55.

All apartments will feature: full-size kitchens and kitchen appliances, full baths, vinyl flooring, window blinds, bulk storage closets, led lighting, high-speed internet access and independent HVAC controls. Every apartment will exceed section 504/ADA standards with units specifically designed for persons with mobility and sensory impairments and all will incorporate many high-efficiency universal design features and energy-saving elements.

Common space will be concentrated on the first floor in the central part of the building where the former gymnasium will be converted into a full-service senior’s community center while additional spaces will be built-out for resident services. Resident amenities will include: an exercise/physical therapy room, library and movie room, pantry, services coordinator office, consultation rooms and management and leasing office. Management and maintenance staff will be on site during normal business hours. All entrance/exits will be key-carded and closed-circuit video monitored.

The center will provide a multitude of senior-oriented services, activities and resources for the surrounding community, not just residents. SRHAC will be working with social workers and case managers that can provide both residents and the surrounding senior community with the assistance needed for them to live safely and comfortably in their own home.
